Have you seen the movie Blood Diamond? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450259/plotsummary We have it at home. Just watched it.

I knew what to expect of it but watched it anyway since everyone in the house was raving about it.

It was VERY good and I think Leonardo DiCaprio has really grown as a sophisticated actor (he's my age!) but it makes me totally sick to my stomach that this ever occured in the past and probably is still happening now. I'd always thought it absurd that a relationship committment can only ever be deemd sacred with a diamond ring. Why not a love poem or a song composed from the heart? If the love was that pure why does it matter what rock you get to teather you to this man? Although the ending was a somewhat spritely one, I'm still quite bothered by the events. It makes me think about what some people told me before I left the US -- that my hopes to help would be unfounded. And although just helping one person would be sufficient for me, my dreams to go work in third world countries has lately become one of great concern for me. Maybe it's because as I grow older, I physically feel more mortal and progressively more frail. I'm not sure if I am really prepared to witness and experience the horrors of their daily lives. I hope I will be capable of being strong for me ... for them.

It was election day in Oz today for members of the upper and lower house. Although I am not allowed to vote, I escorted Robin to the 'voting tables' at his nearby church. Election Day is a day chosen by the incumbent team, usually around this time every year. It is mandatory all citizens vote. Interestingly though IDs were not checked at the polling centers. Apparently, you only need to know your name and resident address when reporting to vote. So for the election, you can elect to choose your preferences by party or by individual competitor. As you can see, in the second photo, there is a loooong list to sort through if you choose to select individuallly. I gotta get myself prepared for next year's federal elections! I hope to make the opportunity to understand Oz politics by then.

Anyone know anything about palmistry? I'm not saying I believe in it, but a housemate does a bit and read my palm. He noted a line I never noticed before. According to some research only 50% of the population has this "Fate Line". Seems like mine is heading towards the middle finger (aka. the mount of Saturn). Fortune tellers say that means I am destined for fortune and riches. But I noticed this evening it swerves towards the index finger at the top. What does that mean?
I was hoping for all the luck possible at least for the next 2 weeks. See, I start my clinical tomorrow for 2 weeks. By the end of it, I should be able to manage patients on my own. Oh my God... I will also be working when I'm not in the hospital. So that means I leave the house at 6:15am and get home at either 9pm or 11pm depending if I have clinical in the morning or the afternoon. I sure hope this nursing thing is worth it. And I'm doing a Certificate in Massage on Sundays... seemed like a good idea at the time when I signed up...
See you in two weeks!
